Today, the 19.10.24, the matter of abortion was discussed in the WHO committee. Since the WHO also deals with the health care of women, many countries were of the opinion that women’s rights and the abortion system is an important issue. There were a total of three Q&A sessions, often a right of reply to the USA of Iran and controversy such as religion, politics and culture about abortion. Members took the subject seriously and dealt with it intensively. Countries such as France, Mexico, the United States and the United Kingdom, where abortion is partially legalized, have explained why the right to abortion is so important. According to the advocats women should be able to have autonomy over their own bodies and receive safe and helpful support from their government. The goal is that abortion will be further legalized across the globe in the future. In addition, women should have personal freedom to make their own decisions and then continue to live peacefully without difficulty. It was mentioned that, after all, it is a human right to decide for onesself about ones own life and body, especially in the case of unintentional pregnancy. Without this possibility, hygiene problems could arise. However, countries such as Iran, Algeria, Venezuela and Iraq, influenced by social and religious aspects, were opposed to the legalization of abortion. Some countries respect the desire for abortion, but only if the mother’s life is in danger. It was questioned whether nations struggling with poverty and a lack of health care should receive support. The answer being yes, because as already mentioned, it is an important topic for the whole world and they would receive help accordingly. In addition, some nations, Russia for example, stated that each country should do what it thinks is best for society and all nations shall meet their decision with respect.
