Today in the committee of CTC the rest of the amendments were presented.
Nigeria proposed financial aid for developing countries, with particular emphasis on Africa, which led to a discussion between the delegates of Nigeria and Türkiye, arguing about the reason for choosing Africa as an example. With a simple majority, the amendment passed and is now part of the resolution.
HRW’s (Human rights watch) amendment also passed, with 11 votes in favor, 1 vote against and 3 abstentions. Another amendment from Pakistan passed with a great majority.
Russia presented a controversial amendment and the US, in a state of pure disbelief, opened up a big discussion, as it was against the UN regulation. Russia responded by saying that according to the Russian regulation this would be legal. The US held a speech against the Russian federation saying that Russia is violating the international law. They blame Russia for attacking children’s hospitals and that the Russian federation can be accused of violating human rights. This amendment didn’t pass with a majority voting against this amendment.
The first topic ended, by the passing of the resolution.
The second topic were measures to prevent the usage of drones for targeted killings of suspected terrorists and the impact on civilian populations and sovereignty. Everyone wanted to hold opening speeches, but they mostly couldn’t be completed before lunch time.
