Today, the proposed solutions to prevent war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by armed forces in the Middle East were discussed. After yesterday’s vote on the draft solution from the USA, the USA once again presented the individual points. After the third point, China presented its amendment, which had 13 votes against and therefore clearly was rejected. The fourth point received a lot of dislike from the other countries. After a question from China, the USA ensured that terrorism had nothing to do with the culture of the country and that terrorism only causes death and pain. After an accusation from Russia, the United States believed, that Russia should not have the right to state this accusation, because of what is happening in the Ukraine. Russia then responded, that what is happening in the Middle East has nothing to do with what is happening in the Ukraine. After a comment from the delegate of Lebanon, the United States made it clear that they only want democracy and peace in the Middle East. After this discussion, the chairs moved on with OC number 5, which was equally controversial. The United States answered a question from Lebanon by saying that the United States had the power to keep the organisations under control. Russia then asked how to be sure that this information would be reliable. In addition, the representative also noted that not every country is equally connected to the conflict in the Middle East. The United States responded to this opinion by saying that it was not about every single country, but about the United Nations. After the sixth point and after a question from Lebanon, the delegate of the US stated, that they have done the most against terrorism so far. Lebanon then proposed a change regarding the sixth OC. The United States responded, that if these relations did not continue, it could also be bad for Lebanon. Russia then gave a speech for Lebanon’s proposed solution. The Delegate of Turkey responded that Russia only presents problems and no solutions and accused them of killing civilians. Russia replies that they don’t understand where this accusation comes from, and that they only would defend themselves from the NATO. In the following, the United States presented their idea regarding a change of OC seventh point, but the amendment did not pass.. Then, two new amendments were presented, in which Iran proposed a change. However, both times met with dislike.
